Why These Problems Happen
Outlet and switch failures usually develop over time, not overnight.
Outlets and switches have a lifespan. Older homes throughout the Denver metro area commonly experience worn contacts, degraded connections, and failed devices after years of daily use.
Electrical connections can loosen over time due to heat cycling, vibration, and repeated use. Loose connections create intermittent power loss, flickering lights, overheating, and dangerous electrical arcing behind the wall.
Plugging too many devices into one circuit strains the wiring and devices over time. High-demand appliances connected to undersized circuits accelerate outlet wear and create overheating risks.
Older aluminum wiring or ungrounded wiring systems can contribute to outlet failures, inconsistent operation, and legitimate safety concerns.
DIY electrical work and poor-quality installations cause a significant percentage of the outlet and switch problems we repair.
Incorrect wire terminations, overloaded circuits, and improperly installed devices create long-term reliability and safety issues.
Bathrooms, kitchens, garages, basements, and outdoor outlets are especially vulnerable to moisture exposure and corrosion over time.
Rodents chewing wiring behind walls is more common than most homeowners realize and often causes intermittent electrical problems that are difficult to trace without proper diagnosis.
Understanding the cause matters just as much as fixing the symptom, which is why we diagnose before we repair.

Joey came out and did a fantastic job looking over and cleaning my system for the winter. I had someone come out earlier in the year, but it felt more like he was trying to get me to buy a new system than help with my existing. Joey looked over the system, gave a few small but very helpful suggestions, and cleaned it. Could not recommend these folks enough.

Just moved into our new (2000 build) house and Joey came out to do winter maintenance on our furnace. This company was recommended from the former owner. Joey was professional, polite and very helpful - showing me how to change the furnace filter and the humidifier pad. He cleaned out the furnace, inspected the system, (which is newer) and told me everything was in good shape – didn’t try to sell me anything extra. I like them and will use them again.

We fix the issue. We don't overcomplicate it.
1. How do I know if my outlet needs replacement or just repair?
If the outlet has visible damage, discoloration, scorching, or feels loose, replacement is usually the safest option.
If the outlet stopped working without visible damage, the issue may be a loose wire connection, a tripped GFCI outlet elsewhere on the circuit, or another wiring issue.
Our electricians diagnose the actual cause before recommending replacement.
2. Why does my outlet have no power if the breaker isn't tripped?
This is one of the most common calls we receive.
The cause is often a tripped GFCI outlet on the same circuit, a loose wiring connection behind the outlet, or a failed outlet device.
Check bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and exterior outlets for tripped GFCI reset buttons first.
If resetting GFCI outlets doesn't restore power, professional diagnosis is usually needed.
3. What is a GFCI outlet and do I need one?
GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter.
These outlets are designed to shut off power immediately if they detect dangerous current leakage, helping protect against electrical shock near water.
Current electrical code requires GFCI protection in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, unfinished basements, exterior outlets, and other wet or damp locations.
If your home lacks GFCI protection where required, we can upgrade it safely and correctly.
4. Is a warm or discolored outlet dangerous?
Yes.
A warm outlet usually indicates loose wiring, overloaded circuits, or internal outlet failure creating heat behind the wall.
Discoloration or scorching means electrical arcing has likely already occurred.
Stop using the outlet immediately and call a licensed electrician.
5. Can I replace an outlet myself?
While some homeowners attempt DIY outlet replacement, improper wiring creates serious fire and shock hazards.
Unpermitted electrical work can also create problems during inspections or home sales.
Our licensed electricians can replace outlets quickly, safely, and to code.
6. How long does outlet and switch repair usually take?
Most standard repairs take between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the issue.
Simple device replacements are usually quick. Wiring issues behind walls or larger circuit problems may require additional diagnostic time.
We provide realistic time estimates after evaluating the problem.
7. Why do my lights flicker when I plug something in?
Flickering lights usually indicate a loose electrical connection, overloaded circuit, failing outlet, or voltage drop caused by undersized wiring.
If flickering occurs throughout the house rather than in one room, the issue may involve the electrical panel or main service connection.
Either way, flickering lights should not be ignored.
Need Outlet or Switch Repair? Let's Get It Fixed.
Don't put it off. Electrical problems don't improve on their own.
